Winter Dances

I have some lovely and unique ideas for those of you attending a winter dance in the coming month.

Give me a call or stop in so I can show you some options.

This lightweight arm corsage was designed for a petite young girl attending a Daddy-Daughter dance. The white orchids are accented with hot pink genestra blooms, rhinestones and attached to pink wire.

Purple orchids are attached to a pearl wrist bracelet for a lasting keepsake gift.

Worn for Homecoming 2011, this wrist corsage included orchids and calcynia.

Kate’s party was a success!

This past Friday evening, Art In Bloom was filled with giggling girls attending their friend, Kate’s 7th birthday party. After learning a bit about Pablo Picasso and his style of art, each party-goer set to work selecting an animal and drawing it’s portrait in a whimsical, cubist manner. Everyone left with an adorable relief sculpture, a long stemmed red rose and an appreciation for individuality and the idea of trying something new in art making.

Inspired by Nature

Here are a few pics I took while designing a floral piece for a memorial service this past weekend. The inspiration for this large 20″x30″ arrangement, to be incorporated with a photo and an urn, was nature’s beauty and the great outdoors. Many thanks to the local family who gave me some creative license and put their trust in my abilities.

Here Come the Brides

If you’re looking for something to do this weekend, join me at the, “Here Come the Brides” Bridal Show in Brighton. The event is Sunday, January 8 from 1-5pm.

I will be working with The White Dress, Brighton’s new bridal salon to showcase some floral trends for 2012 in a five set fashion show. This is also a great time to introduce yourself to me and chat a bit about flowers. Look for my booth and pick up a free gift.

(And psst…if you would like tickets to the event, I have a few left. Stop by Art In Bloom today or give me a call.)

Flowers from Mamow

Last week I had the honor of designing five permanent wreaths for a local family. Each wreath had it’s own unique twist and was given by a sister to her siblings and mom for the holidays. What makes this order so special is that the customer brought in a bit of “family nostalgia” in the form of a silk holiday floral arrangement belonging to her grandmother (Mamow.) I incorporated the stems of holly, poinsettia, evergreens, etc. into the new wreaths along with pods, grapevine, eucalyptus, birds and more. Now each family member can have a remembrance of Mamow on their front door for the holidays.

Since taking this order my mind has been going back to some of my own family’s traditions and how we keep my grandmother’s memory alive. I love this idea of taking something that has been stored away for years and turning it into something new and meaningful. Maybe I need to take a look through my parents’ storage closet…
